Earthquake in Port-au-Prince

Approximately 1 clock, January 8, I 1997 was woken up by my partner who was scared because the house shook. Later she told me that I whisper, she was what happened, what happened.

What happened was that the house in the longest earthquake I have ever known has moved - would be a good 30 seconds. I live in St Louis, out of a big mistake, and saw dozens of smaller quakes, some of which are large enough to shake the dishes in the dining room of my parents, if they made too much noise. But it was the most terrible earthquake that I ever

We were in a house with 4 floors and the top floor was new. We were afraid that the house - would together like a pancake that my partner describes it. But nothing happened, and the house was still standing.

Later we heard that the center of the quake was near the French hospital. Has anybody heard of you or read about the earthquake? What are they on the Richter scale? Obviously, it does not interfere too much in Port-au-Prince
