Tuesday 12 January opened the worst earthquake in 200 years - 7.0 magnitude - less than ten miles from the Caribbean city of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The first quake was followed by twelve further aftershocks of strength 5.0. Structures of all types were damaged or collapsed homes in the slums of the national benchmarks. It is still early in the recovery effort, but millions are likely to be displaced and thousands feared dead as rescue teams from around the world are now down to help Haiti, where they are able.
